Incentivize productivity

Too many good accountants burn out because firms reward their productive people with more work or pointless hours in the office while everyone else is finishing. Productivity should be incentivized… just like technical expertise, strong ethics, and great service.

Kill internal competition

Rating staff by comparing them to their peers is an unnecessary practice that results in internal politics, poor intra-team counseling, and lost focus on client service. Environments fostering collaboration and great service drive higher profitability and happier careers.

Stop setting goals

Too much time and attention is devoted to esoteric goal setting where goals are pushed on staff by management. Focus on delivering high quality service, your career passion will reveal itself in time.
